Piano Repair- (This is a partial list of common needs. Some items are fee based.)

I work on pianos in homes, churches, fire halls, schools, and colleges. I tune all pianos to pitch as was intended by the factory unless there are serious damage or repair concerns. Exceptions will be made for customers who need unusual tunings for special performance needs.

Flange Repair ExampleExcessive flange tightness - With this piano, all the hammer flanges were very very tight. A flange is a hinge like bearing made out of felt. It has a metal pin which act as the hinge pin. Often there has been too much humidity which causes the felt bearing to rust to the hinge pin. In this case, I was told that someone lubricated all of them with WD-40. This action did not work. It was either later cleaned with a soapy degreaser or it attracted some kind of mildew because of some moisture attracting reason. Either way the flange assembly became too tight and had to be eased. We had to remove this assembly and ream out the felt bearings and then replace them into the piano.

Hammer Return Spring Repair:

Broken Rail SpringsBroken Rail Springs

The Springs which case the hammers to return to their home position had become fatigued by use. Too much humidity can also cause them to rust and break in some pianos.

Most of these springs broke at the coil before they attached to the wood rail. The old ones had to be removed. New ones were inserted into the home hole and then fitted to the hammer. This is a task which requires that the action be removed from the piano. This work is best accomplished in the shop.
